On the back of Scott Manns presentation to the National Credit Group last week on the implications of data breaches within an organisation, the passing of the mandatory data breach notifications law through the lower house is very timely.  In the article published in the Australian Financial Review today (15 Feb 2017) written by Ms Yolanda Redrup, she provides some insight into the new proposed bill and the possible implications it may have on big data.

The article states; “In an era of big data, the protection and privacy of personal information must be a primary consideration in the planning and construction of large scale ICT systems, not an afterthought.”  A very powerful statement on the back of some big data breaches which have caused much concern about how information is stored and how secure that data is at rest.  Further reading is found at http://www.afr.com
