ASIC Publishes a Good Practice Guide for handling whistleblower disclosures.

On 2 March 2023, ASIC released their latest Report 758 titled: “Good Practices for handling whistleblower disclosures.

Commission Danielle Press states; “Whistleblowing is a key part of a transparent, accountable and safe work culture. Whistleblowers need to know that, when they have reasonable grounds to suspect misconduct or an improper situation involving a firm, they can raise the issue without being victimised.”

I absolutely agree with Commissioner Press’s view on the importance and value placed on whistleblowers in the workplace. Over 21 years, Stopline has seen many examples where a genuine whistleblower has identified and contributed to the discovery of fraud and workplace misconduct. Without such disclosures, these types of matters in the workplace might go unreported.

By removing the stigma of “dobbing on a mate” and giving people the opportunity to have a voice with the safety and support of the business is important. This can only be achieved if it is supported by the senior members of the business. Stopline can provide support to employees and the business by giving them the opportunity to make a disclosure or report anonymously. The confidentiality of the disclosure report is managed through this process.

This guide is a great resource for business managers to understand what the regulator (ASIC) have identified as being good practices.
